According to Steve Scanlan, the agent for Liam Wilson, they are very interested in pursuing an all-Australian showdown with former unified lightweight champion George Kambosos.

Earlier this month, Wilson nearly pulled off a huge upset when he badly hurt and dropped Emanuel Navarrete in the fourth round. They were battling for the vacant WBO super featherweight title. In what became a firefight, Navarrete was able to rally down the stretch and stopped Wilson in the ninth round.

Wilson has appealed the outcome, because he believes Navarrete was given far too much time to recover after being dropped in the fourth. After going down, Navarrete spit out his mouthpiece to secure additional seconds to get his senses back.

For his part, Kambosos is looking to bounce back after suffering back to back defeats to undisputed lightweight champion Devon Haney in 2022.

Wilson's handlers believe the event would be a big domestic showcase in the same manner as the 2006 collision between Anthony Mundine and Danny Green.

Wilson, who has a big frame for 130-pounds, would have to move up in weight for such a fight.

“Given what Liam showed against Navarrete, it would be a massive all-Australian fight and one of the most exciting domestic fights in decades,” Wilson’s agent Steve Scanlan told News Corp.

“George is in his prime. It would be the fight of the year. He’s a Spartan warrior and Liam loves to entertain when he fights. It’s a fight the Australian public deserves to see, if Liam wins, it would really propel him into the mainstream. George is a former world champion, he’s an Australian boxing legend, it makes sense for us to do it.”
