Liam Smith wants the head of Chris Eubank Jr.

Fresh off a new multi-bout deal with Boxxer, the Liverpool, England, native and longtime 154-pound contender is angling for a showdown with countryman Chris Eubank Jr., the middleweight contender from Brighton. Like Smith, Eubank is aligned with Boxxer, which showcases its fighters exclusively on Sky Sports.

“I've always put my name in for that [Eubank fight],” Smith told Sky Sports. “That's a fight that I'd jump at tomorrow. That's a fight that I'd love, that's a fight that I know could be made now. With me back on Sky that's one that they'll probably push to make.”

Smith, who hails from a boxing rich family and was previously promoted by Matchroom Boxing, is coming off a 10th-round stoppage of Jessie Vargas in April at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Smith (23-4-1, 18 KOs) was not overly impressed with Eubank’s last performance, a unanimous decision over Liam Williams. Eubank (32-2, 23 KOs) knocked Williams four times but was undistinguished for large stretches in the fight. Some critics pointed out that Eubank was being too cute inside the ring, the influence perhaps of his trainer, the boxing icon Roy Jones Jr.

“If Chris Eubank fights me the way he fought Liam Williams, I think I'd beat him handily," Smith said. “I think he's stuck in styles, trying to fight the way Roy Jones fights. So that's one that I'd bite your hand off for and I'd bite your hand off for it next, if you want the truth.”

Adding to Smith’s confidence are the countless sparring sessions he has had with Eubank.

“We had some good spars and you can't really take too much off a spar, sparring in general,” Smith said. “But them spars – we done a lot – have also made me massively confident I'd beat Chris Eubank.”

Smith, a former WBO 154-pound titlist, believes the timing is right for him to best Eubank inside the ring.

“Boxing ability and boxing IQ I don't think he's the greatest,” Smith continued. “That’s why I think he's stuck in between styles at the moment. I think Roy Jones is trying to get him boxing and if he tries to box me like he boxed Liam Williams, then I think it's an easy night for me.”
