World ranked Australian Liam Paro had the opportunity to spend close to a month in camp with a fighter that many consider a future pound for pound mainstay of the sport of boxing, Shakur Stevenson.

Stevenson produced one of the finest performances of 2021 last month in Atlanta, as he defeated Jamell Herring for the WBO world super featherweight title.

Paro discussed his time in camp with Stevenson, and the Newark mans performance against Herring.

The Aussie said, “I really enjoyed my time in camp with Shakur. The whole team were very professional and extremely welcoming. It was a pleasure to share the ring with a now two weight world champion. Shakur is definitely the best fighter I’ve ever shared a ring with in sparring, he’s a special fighter.

“I expected Shakur to win and I feel like he felt he had a point to prove. Herring is a great fighter, but Shakur took him apart in a way that was amazing to see and showed that he’s got to be considered a pound for pound star.

“I leaned a lot about sharpness, the importance of reflexes and setting traps with Shakur. He’s very good at all of them and it was great add some new skills to my arsenal, and that was the main reasoning why my team at ACE Boxing made the decision to send me to Las Vegas.”

The Las Vegas-based Paro proudly boasts an undefeated record, whilst sitting at the top of the world ratings at super lightweight with the IBF and WBO

Paro elaborated on his next move in the United State:

“I’m ready for anything. I don’t need tune up fights. If I need them I shouldn’t be here really, I’m in the USA for real fights and to force my way into a world title clash.

“The target has to be to land a world title clash at some point soon. Until then I want fights that are going to progress me to that point. I have a great team in Australia and Vegas that are working hard to make things happen for me, so I’m looking forward to announcing something big in the next couple of weeks.”
