A PUMPED-up Les Sherrington continued his career surge with another electric victory at Toowoomba's Rumours International last night.

Sherrington thrilled his adopted home-town crowd with a second knock-out win over Paraguay national champion Jorge Gomez Perez.

The WBF world middleweight champion and WBO world number eight sent the visitor crashing to the canvas 2 minutes and 17 seconds into the round.

Gomez regained his feet but referee Alan Moore waved an immediate end to the bout without the need to apply a mandatory eight count on the Paraguayan.

Sherrington's early finish to the bout completed his sixth consecutive victory since linking with Toowoomba trainer Brendon Smith early last year.

Townsville-born Sherrington praised the large crowd in his post fight speech for its support in what was his Toowoomba fight debut.

"I just want to thank everyone in Toowoomba who has got behind me and for the support they've given me," Sherrington said.

"We've had a long gruelling lead up to this - it's been great.

"I'd love to come back here and fight again in Toowoomba, if not I might go overseas."

Sherrington's win completed a triumphant night for Toowoomba-based fighters.

Filipino Jack "The Assassin" Asis stretched his record to eight straight wins as he closes in on a world title shot with a round three victory over Jose Saez.

Asis completely outclassed the Argentinean before the referee stopped the fight 19 seconds into the third round following a heavy right hand blow to the head of Saez.

Will Young had a busy night against tough New South Welshman James Kinsella before winning the five-round bout with a unanimous point's decision.

Kris George extended his unbeaten run to four in his ring comeback after flooring Dean Cambridge with a huge right hand 2mins and 7secs into round one.

Englishman Darren Askew made it back-to-back victories since joining Smithy's Gym when he gained a points decision over Mark Ramirez.

Askew helped set up his win with a first round knockdown of the Queensland light welterweight champion.

Josh Webb won the battle of the cruiserweights when he stopped pro debutante and fellow fighter Graham Blay in round two.

Toowoomba amateur Brandon Spain was beaten on points by Curtley Hammond.
