British welterweight contender Lee Purdy, 27-years-old, is still focused on returning to the ring. He suffered a detached and torn retina in his right eye in the December 2013 defeat to then undefeated Leonard Bundu. Purdy has undergone several operations over the last year to fix the problem, but the issues has not been corrected. Purdy is set to undergo further surgery.

Purdy told UK outlet The Daily Gazette: “I’ll have at least one more operation. I’ve been going for regular check ups at Moorfields, which is one of the leading eye hospitals in Europe. I’ve been there so many times now and I know all of the doctors there by name. At one point, I was going up there every week. I don’t know how good my vision is going to be after the operation but I won’t let go until I’m told otherwise. I won’t give up - but if I was forced to quit, I would want to stay in boxing."

Purdy also said he was very impressed with Amir Khan's recent performance against Devon Alexander. Purdy was beaten up by Alexander in May 2013. He says the victory proved Khan belongs at the world level with fighters like Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

Purdy added: “I think with that performance, Khan showed that he belongs at world level - he has the style to beat most people.”
