Mexico City, Mexico - Super bantamweight journeyman Jonathan Lecona scored a big upset by winning a ten round unanimous decision over Enrique "Duende" Bernache. The judges gave the following scores of 96-95, 97-93 and 98-92. Bernache (21-5, 11 KOs) controlled Lecona (15-11-2, 5 KOs) for the first four rounds, until the challenger rallied to make it a battle until the final bell.

Junior middleweight contender Daniel Sandoval (31-2, 30 KOs) destroyed Martin Avila (14-11, 7KOs) in two rounds. Sandoval dropped Avila two times in the first round and then two more times in the second. Referee Laurentino Ramirez decided to stop the match when Martin fell to the canvas for the fourth time.
