Lauren Price has loftier goals in mind after her latest win.

The Olympic Gold medalist and history-making women’s British welterweight titlist claimed a technical decision win over Zambia’s Lolita Muzeya. The fight was stopped at 0:24 of round six due to a cut over Muzeya’s left eye caused by a headbutt from the preceding round.

Price was credited with a fifth-round knockdown and won by score of 60-53 on the lone scorecard of referee Steve Gray in their welterweight bout Saturday at AO Arena in Manchester, England.

Price (5-0, 1KO) boxed well and fended off a scrappy Muzeya (18-2, 10KOs) over the course of their truncated welterweight contest. The 29-year-old Welsh southpaw found her groove and was able to control the action until the threat of a fight stoppage surfaced late in round five.

An accidental clash of heads left Muzeya with a bad cut over her left eye. Price landed a left hand which preceded the incident, whereas a cupping right hand seemed to pull Muzeya down to the canvas. The sequence was ruled a knockdown in real time, though it proved moot.

Muzeya was tended to by her corner in between rounds but a visit to the ringside doctor early in round six produced the end of the fight.

Price made history for UK boxing in her preceding bout, a ten-round win over Kirstie Bavington in May to become the first woman ever to win a British title. The groundbreaking moment didn’t seem to have much carryover effect; Saturday’s fight with Muzeya was buried deep on the undercard and aired on Sky Sports’ YouTube channel which was only available to UK viewers (and those elsewhere with a VPN).

The YouTube portion also featured Liverpool’s Frankie Stringer (6-0, 0KOs), who pitched a six-round shutout win over Nicaragua’s Engel Gomez (8-16-1, 4KOs). Stringer is managed by Liam Smith (33-3-1, 20KOs), who faces Chris Eubank Jr. (32-3, 23KOs) for a second time in this evening’s main event.

Price called for at least one more fight before the end of the year and has already set her sights on bigger prey. Mentioned throughout fight week and again after Saturday’s win were potential showdowns versus former unified 130-pound titlist Mikaela Mayer—now campaigning at welterweight and who fights later this evening on the main card—and two-division and reigning IBF welterweight titlist Natasha Jonas, who was ringside on the Sky Sports call.

“I respect both girls, fort what they’ve done for women’s boxing,” Price said. “For myself, ‘Tash obviously got the belt. I respect her one hundred percent.

“Obviously, I want to be chasing world titles. We’re both British. It would be an honor to share the ring with her.”
