As BoxingScene.com first reported on Wednesday, the World Boxing Association ordered an immediate rematch between WBC junior middleweight champion Jarrett Hurd and former beltholder Erislandy Lara.

The two boxers fought earlier this month in an IBF, WBA, IBO unification in Las Vegas.

Hurd scored a knockdown in the twelfth and final round to clinch his victory. Two judges scored 114-113 for Hurd, with the third tallying 114-113 for Lara.

Lara and his camp are over the moon with the WBA's ruling on the matter and they believe the titles will be recovered in the second fight.

"Every time we come to Las Vegas, the same thing always happens to us," Lara said at the time, "I think I was winning the fight. A single punch can not decide the result of twelve rounds. I want an immediate rematch.''

The two sides were given 30 days to reach an agreement or the fight will head over toe a purse bid.

"We think it's a fair decision, because many saw Lara as the winner," said the boxer's manager, Luis DeCubas Jr., to George Ebro.

"We are confident that in the rematch we will recover the lost title and our boxer will be the new unified king of 154 pounds. Lara is very happy with this and he will prepare like never before to recover his belt. If the first fight was extremely entertaining, the second will be much better."

Lara (25-3-2, 14 KOs) and Hurd (22-0, 15 KOs) will not be made that easily.

Showtime wants to match Hurd in a unification against WBC world champion Jermell Charlo, who returns to the ring in June in a voluntary defense of his belt against former champion Austin Trout. If Charlo wins without injury, the network would like to see him fight Hurd in the fall. Powerful adviser Al Haymon works with Lara, Hurd and Charlo.
