The World Boxing Council has started the process of the free negotiations for the final elimination bout between Erislandy Lara and Vanes Martyrosian to determine the mandatory contender in the super welterweight division. If there is no agreement between the parties, a purse offer will be held on Friday, July 27, in the WBC’s Mexico City headquarters.

The WBC's decision is a bit strange when you consider that Vanes vs. Lara was ordered a few week ago and Vanes rejected the fight. Vanes, who won WBC eliminators in the past, wanted an iron-clad contract agreement which guaranteed the winner an immediate shot at Canelo. When he couldn't secure that agreement he walked away from the eliminator. The same result is expected here.
