MGM Grand, Las Vegas - WBA 'regular' junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara felt that his old rival, Alfredo Angulo, looked like an old man on Saturday night. Angulo was beat down for nine rounds by Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, before referee Tony Weeks had seen enough in the tenth and waved off the contest.

It was a far cry from the Angulo who dropped Lara two times in a ten round war back in June of 2013. In that contest, Angulo had power, threw combinations in bunches and was quicker to the trigger.

"I agree 100% [that Angulo looked old]. I didn't see no strength, no power, no snap, no speed on his shots. I think I affected him, I think I took whatever he had left I took out of him that night," Lara said to BoxingScene.com.

The Cuban believes Angulo should call it day, after watching him take a lot of punishment in the fight with Canelo. Angulo also took plenty of damage in the fight with Lara and had several other tough fights.

"I think if he thinks about [retirement] twice it's too many times. He needs to think about it once. He's taken a lot of punches to the head. For his safety [maybe he should walk away]. I think he'll end up getting a brain injury if he keeps on like this," Lara said.

As far as the stoppage of the Canelo-Angulo bout, Lara did not agree with referee Tony Weeks - who waved off the fight after Canelo landed a good uppercut on Angulo.

"Canelo hit him with a real good shot, but I don't think the fight should have been stopped at that moment," Lara said.
