Reigning IBF Junior Welterweight champion Lamont Peterson will not only be making his return to the ring this Saturday night but also to his hometown of Washington, DC as he will face undefeated Canadian Dierry Jean live on Showtime from the DC Armory.

Peterson will try to erase the memory of his last fight where he was stopped in three rounds by then interim WBC champion Lucas Matthysse. He assures he’s put that fight behind him and he’s now concentrating on getting back to his winning ways.

While Jean isn’t a household name, he boasts an undefeated record and is indeed hungry to get an opportunity at a world title. When BoxingScene caught up with Peterson, he was asked what his overall thoughts were on Jean as a fighter.

“He’s a pretty decent fighter. I’m proven at this point so let’s see what he’s got come January 25th. He’s pretty much to me, I look at him as unproven. I don’t know if it’s going to be a tough fight or not. On paper and from what I seen, it should be a good fight. I expect to come out and I expect to win the fight. I expect to put on a good performance and remind people that I can fight and I hope it leads to bigger and better things” said Peterson.

Jean has only fought in the United States twice and while Peterson said wasn’t all that familiar with his current foe, he feels he will be able to adapt and use whatever fighting style is necessary to be victorious.

“Whatever the game plan is, we always have the option of boxing, banging, counter punching and doing different things. So we can always alter the game plan. We can try a little bit of everything and find out what works best when I get in there and try to stick with that at that point” Peterson would tell BoxingScene.

Peterson has drawn great crowds when he’s fought in DC and he is looking to record another victory this Saturday night.
