Kyrone Davis got into a rhythm in the third round Saturday night and fended off Cruse Stewart’s rally in the eighth and final round to win a unanimous decision at The Armory in Minneapolis.

All three judges scored their fight 77-75 for Davis, a Wilmington, Delaware resident who improved to 18-3-1 on the David Morrell Jr.-Sena Agbeko undercard. Stewart, of nearby Maple Grove, Minnesota, slipped to 8-3 (6 KOs).

Stewart connected with a left hook to Davis’ body that made Davis retreat with just over a minute left in the eighth round. Davis eventually went down, but it was ruled that he slipped.

Davis came back toward the end of the eighth round and blasted Stewart with a left hook up top that moved Stewart backward a few seconds before the final bell sounded.

Stewart caught Davis with his right hand, btu Davis quickly came back to land a left hook in the final minute of the sixth round. Davis drilled Stewart with a right hand barely 20 seconds into the sixth round.

Davis landed two right hands while trying to break Stewart’s clinches with less than 40 seconds remaining in the fifth round. A right hand by Davis backed up Stewart with just under 1:40 remaining in the fifth round.

With just under a minute to go in the fourth round, Davis drilled Stewart with a right hand. Davis nailed Stewart with a left hook and then a right hand about 50 seconds into the fourth round.

Davis landed two left hooks within a 15-second span in the final minute of the third round.

Stewart snuck in a right uppercut at exactly the midway mark of the second round. Stewart connected with a stiff jab later in the second round and caught Davis with a left hook to his body.

In the bout before Davis defeated Stewart, Lawrence King knocked out Alex Theran in the fourth round of a cruiserweight contest scheduled for eight rounds.

King (14-1, 12 KOs), of San Bernardino, California, caught Theran with a right uppercut that left Theran slumped on the bottom rope 15 seconds into the fourth round. Mark Nelson quickly waved an end to the action and declared King the winner at 18 seconds of the fourth round.

The Colombian-born Theran (23-13, 15 KOs), of Lynn, Massachusetts, has lost eight straight fights. Six of those losses have come by knockout or technical knockout.
