Unbeaten Japanese WBA 108-pound (super) world champion Hiroto Kyoguchi will travel all the way to Mexico to battle tough Mexican Esteban Bermudez, who is the WBA's regular champion at 108, in an interesting clash of civilizations on January 15.

The war in the Mexican territory will define the one and only World Boxing Association champion in the light flyweight (108 lbs) division.

After their clash was ordered by the WBA, a satisfactory agreement was reached between the Japanese and the Mexican camps, avoiding the process of a purse bid.

However, the venue for the rumble is still being worked out, and will be announced in due time.

The effective and fast-paced 28-year-old “super champion” Kyoguchi (15-0, 10 KO’s) from Osaka, known in Japan as “Dynamite Boy,” has already been a 2-division world champion.

This Mexico battle will be his fourth title defense of the crown he conquered by stopping in 10 chapters South African former king Hekkie Butler three years ago in Macao.

But the talented Japanese fighter is no stranger to exchanging heavy bombs against determined Mexican warriors, having already defeated two of them: Jose Argumedo, whom he outclassed back in 2017; and more recently Axel Aragon Vega, whom Kyoguchi overpowered and stopped in 5 rounds last March in Dallas.

Meanwhile, Mexico's regular champion of the WBA, Bermudez (14-3-2, 10 KO’s) from the City of Neza in the great State of Mexico, takes part in his first fight since he unexpectedly punished and dethroned Venezuelan slugger Carlos Canizales (22-1-1, 17 KO’s). Bermudez stopped Canizales in six rounds last May in Ciudad de México.

Canizales was the favorite among bookies and betting fans to dismantle Bermudez.

But that was far from what happened, because the underdog Bermudez was the one who controlled, stalked and tormented the heavy-handed Canizales.
