According to bernerzeitung.ch, Bern’s mayor Alexander Cheppet is planning a major gift to Swiss boxing fans. Cheppet wants to stage a heavyweight championship in Swiss capital in 2012, and, according to the same source, negotiations between Team Klitschko and Stade de Suisse are already under way.

Insiders inform that Cheppet is close to Marcel Wisler, who acts as the Klitschkos' representative in Switzerland. He also is acquainted with both brothers, and he has even visited them in Ukraine.

“During the Swiss Economical Forum I asked [WBC champion] Vitali to perform one more time in my city”, said Cheppet a month ago. As a reciprocal aid, Bern’s mayor is ready to help Klitschko in his political activities.

Marcel Wisler was a man, who helped to arrange Vitali’s fight against Kevin Johnson, which had also taken place in Switzerland late in 2009.

“The entire Europe is willing to host the Big Brothers’ next fight”, told Wisler. “Zurich, Bern and Tun are frontrunners in the race to find a new home for the heavyweight championship”.

Given the fact that Cheppet is in close contact with Brothers, Bern seems to be a logical home for the next show.

According to Wisler, Postfinance-Arena, which seats roughly 17 thousands witnesses, is too small.

“We are trying to resolve this issue by choosing Stade de Suisse”, said the representative of the stadium. The aforementioned arena seats around 31 thousand fans.

Meanwhile, the most desirable opponent for Vitali is a former two-time WBA heavyweight titleholder Nikolay Valuev. In 2007 Valuev fought in Switzerland and defeated Jameel McCline with the third-round TKO. Cheppet jokes, that he has already started to study the Russian language “in order to convince Valuev to take this battle in Bern”.
