Bilbao Exhibition Centre, Baracaldo - EBU welterweight champion Kerman Lejarraga (27-0, 22 KOs) continued his path of destruction with a fourth round knockout of Frankie Gavin (26-4, 15 KOs), who put in a very solid effort.

The EBU title was not at stake because Gavin failed to make weight for the contest on Friday, coming in at nearly five pounds over the welterweight limit. Coming in, he won three fights in a row since getting knocked out by Sam Eggington in October 2016.

Lejarraga blasted out his last two opponents in 2018 - including a two round blowout of Bradley Skeete in April to capture the EBU crown. Gavin won a twelve round decision over Skeete in 2014 for the Commonwealth title.

Gavin was boxing very well in the first round, digging shots to the body and always kept his hands moving. In the second, it was more of the same. Kerman was landing the stronger shots, but it was Gavin who was finding more success by jabbing and setting up bigger punches during openings.

Kerman was applying a lot of pressure in the third and was starting to land more often. Gavin was still very much in the fight and doing well with his high activity and power punching.

In the fourth, Kerman was coming forward with big shots. He badly hurt Gavin several times. Gavin, who seemed to be out on his feet several times, tried to fight him off. He was landing a lot of good shots, but Kerman kept coming and poured on the pressure. The end came when Kerman landed a vicious left hook to the body, and Gavin went down in pain. The referee issued the full count as Gavin was unable to get up in time.
