Katie Taylor couldn’t secure the knockout she sought, but she did dominate Cindy Serrano on Saturday night.

Ireland’s Taylor was aggressive throughout their bout, landed an array of power punches and produced a very convincing victory over a former champion. All three judges – Steve Clark, John Madfis and Allen Nace – scored each of the 10 rounds for Taylor (100-90).

The 32-year-old Taylor (11-0, 5 KOs) won a unanimous decision to defend her IBF and WBA lightweight titles at TD Garden in Boston. Prior to Saturday night, the 36-year-old Serrano (27-6-3, 10 KOs), who has never been knocked out, hadn’t lost since April 2012.

Brooklyn’s Serrano hadn’t fought since last October 14, when she defeated Edina Kiss by split decision at Barclays Center. Prior to beating Serrano, Taylor fought four times since Serrano’s previous bout.

Taylor tried to knock out Serrano during the 10th and final round, but couldn’t do it.

Right hands by Taylor hurt Serrano with just over a minute remaining in the ninth round. By then, Serrano was just trying to survive in a completely one-sided fight.

Taylor wasn’t as accurate in the eighth round as she was when she battered Serrano in the previous round. She continued pressing the action in that round and Serrano fought defensively, despite that she obviously was way behind on the scorecards.

An aggressive Taylor appeared committed to knocking out Serrano at the start of the seventh round. She landed multiple power shots to Serrano’s head and body in the first half of that round.

Taylor taunted Serrano in the second half of the seventh round. She put her gloves behind her back, moved backward and waved Serrano forward.

Serrano indulged her briefly, but backed off once Taylor fired punches back at her.

Taylor teed off on Serrano during the first 30 seconds of the sixth round, when she landed several straight right hands that affected Serrano. A tiring Serrano tried to slow Taylor’s momentum by holding her later in the sixth.

Taylor snuck a left to the body past Serrano’s tight defense early in the fifth round. Taylor caught Serrano with three right hands in separate sequences later in the fifth.

Taylor continued to stalk Serrano throughout the fourth round. She hit Serrano with a straight right hand as Serrano moved backward with 45 seconds to go in that round.

Taylor’s right hand hit the side of Serrano’s head about 30 seconds into the third round. After Serrano slipped a right hand, Taylor hit her with a left hook to the body toward the end of the third.

Taylor landed a right hand with just over a minute left in the second round. Serrano connected with a right hand of her own about 15 seconds later.

Taylor pressured Serrano throughout the first round, but couldn’t land the hard shot she sought.
