Former IBF junior middleweight champion Roman Karmazin said the most impressive performance of the entire year was Juan Manuel Marquez's sixth round knockout of Manny Pacquiao on December 8th in Las Vegas. Karmazin, who retired last year after suffering a bad knockout at the hands of Osumanu Adama, says Pacquiao could end up like Roy Jones Jr. if he continues to fight on. Jones was never the same after suffering a knockout defeat to Antonio Tarver in 2004. Jones has continued to fight but suffered several more crushing knockout defeats.

Karmazin got to know Pacquiao very well when the two fighters trained side by side with Freddie Roach.

"I think Pacquiao was not sufficiently motivated for the fourth fight with Marquez. He achieved everything that a professional boxer can only dream of, and recently he addmitted that he was apparently tired of boxing....this is what I believe. I was personally acquainted with Manny Pacquiao, he is a very nice person, but I didn't really like his style of boxing in the fight with Marquez. I wanting Marquez to win, but I was not expecting what happened at the end. To be honest, I think it would be better for [Pacquiao] if his performances in the ring were complete. And if he does come back, we could witness a complete repeat of the sad story of Roy Jones Jr. - and it would only harm him and his fans. But I stress that this is only my opinion," Karmazin said.
