The fight is a few weeks away, as George “Ferocious” Kambosos Jr (20–0, 10 KO’s) will defend his titles against Devin “The Dream” Haney (27–0, 15 KO’s) on June 5 at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne.

Local observers expect to shatter the biggest live boxing Australian audience in modern history, 51,026 people, set by the 2017 Manny Pacquiao vs. Jeff Horn welterweight title fight in Brisbane.

Kambosos has been the toast of the country since his career-defining victory over Teofimo Lopez in New York last year which saw the 28-year-old Australian claim the WBO/WBA/WBC Franchise/IBF lightweight titles.

The only belt missing from his collection is the WBC, which is held by Haney, who has never fought outside North America as a professional.

He will travel to Australia, intent on claiming Kambosos' titles and becoming the seventh man to hold all his division's major titles since the four-belt era began in 2004, and the first to do it in the lightweight division.

For Kambosos Jr though, this is the moment he has been working towards since he was a boy.

“This is the fight that the world has been waiting for and I can’t wait to share this experience with my family, my friends and my country on June 5 at Marvel Stadium,” Kambosos said.

“My phone has been buzzing since the date and venue were announced. It’s very humbling to know you have the support of an entire country and it also gives me strength to know I will have them all in my corner come June 5.

“I want Haney to know when he walks out that while it may be in the ring, there are literally millions of my people both in Australia and in Greece that have my back.  I want to blow the roof off and send him back to America without that WBC belt."

Kambosos' promoter, Lou DiBella, declared this a historic event that will be watched by millions of fans around the world.

"I have found that the best things in life are made of the fewest and simplest premium ingredients. In this case, we have the two best lightweights in the world in undefeated world champions George Kambosos, Jr. and Devin Haney, a world-class venue in Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, and a fan-base second to none. Mixed together, we have an extraordinary record-breaking event and the fight of the year," said DiBella.

"In the coming days, we will be announcing the exciting undercard that will have fans in their seats from the opening bell."
