The Ford Center at The Star, Frisco, Texas - WBC flyweight champion Julio Cesar Martinez (16-1-1, 12 KOs) had his hands full in winning a twelve round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Jay Harris (17-1, 9 KOs). The scores were 118-109, 116-111 and 115-112.

Harris came out jabbing, but it didn't take long before Harris was tagged with a hard combination. The bigger punches were rattling Harris and shaking him up. Harris was boxing very well in the second and putting his skills on display. Martinez was pushing Harris back every time he landed big shots.

They were trading away in the third. Both were having their moments. Another high contact bout in the fourth. Harris' face was getting cut up and bruised from the big punches of Martinez. After Martinez controlled the fifth, it was Harris who did better work in the sixth.

Martinez started fast in round seven, blasting away with punches to push Harris back. At the end of the round, Harris rallied hard and was landing a lot of power shots on Martinez. Harris continued to rally as they fought in the eight round.

Martinez was unloading in the ninth, blasting away at Harris for most of the round. At the start of the tenth, a hard hook to the body sent Harris down to the mat and he was in pain. Harris was staying away and fighting when necessary as Martinez was going after him.

“It was a tough battle, but I plan to defend my title many times. There’s no fear here. No excuses. I’ll defend this title many times. This is for Mexico," Martinez said.

“Congratulation to Jay Harris, he’s a very strong fighter. That is why he was undefeated. I want to defend my title anywhere. Thank you to Eddie Hearn for giving me a great camp. Like I said anytime, anywhere.”
