Legendary former three-division world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. was very proud of his countryman, Juan Manuel Marquez in his third fight with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. Chavez Sr. was doing the ringside commentary for the bout, which took place on November 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Marquez lost a close 12-round majority decision, but was viewed as the winner by Chavez Sr. because he broke the myth of Pacquiao being an invincible fighter. Chavez Sr., unlike other fighters, is not impressed with Pacquiao's recent victories.

"Marquez showed that he is better than Pacquiao. [Pacquiao] is not invincible. He's not what you think he is,” said Chavez, who was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame earlier this year. “He caught De La Hoya when he was finished. He had a good fight against Margarito, but he's slow. And Mosley was finished."

Where Chavez Sr. was most impressed with Marquez – also a former three-division world champion – was in his ability to make Pacquiao miss and then make him pay, coming in a fight where he was viewed as the heavy underdog moving up nearly full divisions in weight.

“Juan Manuel, even at his age [of 38], is dedicated to boxing inside and outside of the ring. Juan Manuel is a born fighter and he studied Pacquiao very well. Pacquiao couldn't get to Marquez. Pacquiao would throw five or six shots, and then Marquez would make him miss and then counter. Marquez clearly won the fight.”
