Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is not planning to hang up the gloves any time soon.

Last month, Chavez Jr. suffered an unexpected loss when he dropped a unanimous technical decision to undefeated Mario Cazares.

After the fight, Chavez Jr. complained about the scores and the officiating.

The fight was cut short, and went to the judges, when Chavez Jr. suffered a bad cut above his eye from an accidental clash of heads. Chavez Jr. claimed the head clash was intentional - but Cazares claims the cut in question was created by a legal punch.

It was the second defeat in a row for the Mexican fighter, who was already coming off a TKO defeat at the hands of Daniel Jacobs from December of 2019.

According to Chavez Jr, he is currently training for a super middleweight fight with Argentine boxer Nicolas Masseroni on November 21 in Sinaloa, Mexico.

Masseroni, who has a record of 19-1 with all 19 wins coming by knockout, has never faced a boxer with the experience level of Chavez Jr. Most of his wins were against overmatched opponents.

While the bout is set for super middleweight, that could very well change when the fight draws closer.

Chavez's last two fights have taken place at light heavyweight - but they were initially scheduled to take place at the super middleweight limit of 168-pounds. In both bouts, the weight limit was changed after Chavez expressed concerns with making the required limit.

In June of last year, the 28-year-old Masseroni was stopped in eight rounds by Uriel Gonzalez, who had previously been knocked out in two rounds by Jaime Munguia at 154-pounds, and also suffered a KO loss in one to Steven Butler.

Masseroni has won his last two fights, both by knockout in one.
