Los Angeles, Calif. - IBF super welterweight champion Jermall Charlo improved his record to 25-0 by stopping mandatory challenger Julian Williams (22-1-1) with a fifth round knockout. The bout opened up a Showtime broadcast that was headlined by Abner Mares upset victory over Jesus Cuellar.

There were a total of three knockdowns in the fight. The first one occurred in the second round and Williams went down twice more in the fifth before the fight was stopped.

Williams recovered well after the first knockdown and was very effective in the third and fourth round before getting caught in the fifth.  The Philadelphia native vows to come back even stronger and said that the best is yet to come.

"I just got caught with a shot that I didn't see. Jermall is a hell of a fighter. I don't take nothing away from him. Like I said before, I didn't have no beef before the fight and I don't have one afterwards. He is a good fighter and he caught me with a shot I didn't see. I did think I was dominating the fight. I would like to see the cards but it doesn't really matter. Congrats to him," Williams told BoxingScene.com.

"I am going to come back better man. I made a few mistakes but like I said I thought I was winning the fight but he caught me with a shot. I just gotta be a little more cognizant of the punches that are coming back."

After the fight Charlo said that he will likely move up to 160 unless mega-fights versus WBO super welterweight champion Canelo Alvarez or former four-division champion Miguel Cotto can be made.
