Juan Manuel Marquez (53-6, 39KOs) can't believe the WBA stripped him of his "super champion" status. The organization claims Marquez didn't defend his title in 18 months, but the Mexican fighter states that he paid sanctioning fees to the organization even though he didn't fight at the lightweight limit. And, Marquez defended his title against Michael Katsidis in November 2010, which is less than 18 months ago.

Marquez thinks the WBA is trying to get the title in the hands of Jorge Linares, who has a close relationship with the sanctioning body. There is talk the WBA will order a fight for the vacant title between Linares, ranked at one, and Cuba's Richard Abril, ranked at two.

Marquez wants to face Pacquiao or challenge for a junior welterweight title and then defend his lightweight belts.

"The time has not expired, I fought Michael Katsidis in November 2010. I will talk with my lawyers to take care of this. I am being treated unfairly because I've also paid fees for the last few fights that I've done and I haven't been defending those titles. I want to make a fourth fight with Pacquiao or challenge for a [junior] welterweight title, and then defend the lightweight title that I have, but we are going to solve this in the coming days," Marquez told Sal Rodriguez.
