Former two division world champion Juan Manuel Lopez (34-5, 31 KO's) has been medically approved to return to the ring, after taking part in specialized medical examinations in order to get permission from the local commission to fight on October 8 at the Coliseum Roberto Clemente in Puerto Rico.

Juanma will return against former WBO super bantamweight world champion and country rival Wilfredo 'Papito' Vazquez (24-6-1 and 19 KO's).

Rosilvia Muñiz, the head of the Medical Commission of the Professional Boxing Commission in Puerto Rico, confirmed the Juanma-Vazquez fight has been approval on a medical level.

"He is fit to fight. The examinations have already been completed. There were neurological examinations and we asked Dr. Edgar Hernandez [to look at him]. He was the one who evaluated [Juanma] in the fight with Orlando Salido. He had six fights after that and lost three of them by knockout, and Hernandez was evaluating him. I also evaluated him in my office and found him to be in good condition. So he is fit to fight ," she said.

For Vazquez, he is in the process of undergoing required vision exams.

"For Juanma, as he's suffered several knockouts, we asked that the same neurologist to examine him. And he is fine. And we also did very rigorous tests for Hepatitis B and C, HIV and electrocardiogram," she said.

Muniz explained that in the neurological examination, all cranial nerves as well as his motor and sensory parts were examined.

"We also saw ophthalmologist Emilio Baez, who is a doctor who's spent many years with the Commission and is the same ophthalmologist who saw him after the fight with Salido. And he said yes [regarding Juanma's ability to fight again]."
