Light heavyweight prospect Juan Carrillo scored a third-round stoppage of Quinton Rankin in Dmitriy Salita’s latest Big Time Boxing show on DAZN.

The Colombian won the main event at Detroit’s Wayne State Fieldhouse, and the all-southpaw battle started off with a messy opening round that saw both tumble to the deck on a couple of occasions, with Rankin landing a big left as the best shot of the session.

The second was also uneventful, but moments after the bell started to sound the third, Carrillo crashed in a left uppercut that Rankin really felt, and he then slammed in a right uppercut that deposited Rankin heavily. Rankin barely made it back to his feet in time but, dejected, he was not allowed to continue.

It was all over after 27 seconds of the third.

Thirty-seven-year-old Rankin, from North Carolina, is now 21-9-2 (16 KOs). Carrillo is 12-0 (9 KOs).

Shohjahon Ergashev, trained by former heavyweight contender Timur Ibragimov, made quick work out of Panama’s Juan Huertas, dropping and stopping him in round one.

Ergashev was the aggressor from the start, forcing Huertas to concede ground and landing heavy lefts. Ergashev cracked him with a huge left uppercut and, as Ergashev followed in, he nailed Huertas to the body with a left hook and Huertas dropped in agony, writhing around on the canvas as the fight was called off.

Time of the stoppage was 2:00.

Impressive Detroit-based Uzbek southpaw Ergashev is 24-1 (21 KOs). Huertas drops to 17-5-1 (13 KOs).

Vladimir Shishkin, from Russia but fighting out of Florida, is 16-0 (10 KOs) and the IBF No. 2 light heavyweight and it took him seven rounds to stop Sacramento’s Mike Guy.

Shishkin was in charge throughout and really went through the gears in the decisive round, stringing heavy shots together and as Guy covered up and retreated with his back to the ropes, he absorbed a rough left to the body that took his breath away. Guy didn’t drop, but he reached for in the injured area. Shishkin needed no second invitation, and as he attacked a bloodied and bewildered Guy, who was just about defenseless, the referee intervened.

Time of the stoppage was 2: 14 and Guy is now 12-9-1 (5 KOs).

Nadim Salloum, a Lebanese fighter boxing out of Brooklyn, New York, lost an eight-round decision to southpaw William Townsel at super-middleweight.

Round six was the pick of the rounds with both having their moments, but Townsel had success with his left hand, with straight shots and uppercuts on the inside.

Townsel won by margins of 79-73 and 80-72 (twice) and is now 7-1 (5 KOs). Salloum is 12-2 (6 KOs).

Well-supported southpaw super welterweight Husam Al Mashhadi, from Dearborn Heights, Michigan, is now 9-1 (8 KOs) after taking just 1:47 to dispatch 38-year-old Colombian veteran Daulis Prescott, who is 34-21.

A big left hand initially staggered Prescott and Al Mashhadi followed in dropping him as he worked the body and head. Prescott stood up but wobbled forwards and the referee waved it off.
