Leeds - Zelfa Barrett recorded a fourth round stoppage of fellow Mancunian Chris Conwell in what was an all Moston derby.

The contest began with a very good opening round, as both fighters look to establish their dominance, but it was Barrett who was the flashier of the two. 'Brown Flash' worked well off his jab as he controlled the range from the outside.

Conwell came forward in the early stages too, applying solid pressure of his own to his fellow Mancunian. Barrett was doing the better work however Conwell was giving an excellent account of himself.

The end came after 2.20 in round number four after Conwell failed to beat the referees ten found after the latter of two knockdowns. Both knockdowns came from perfectly placed left hooks to the body.

Barrett picks up the English Super Featherweight title and will likely look towards the British title next, while Conwell will definitely come again.

Liverpool's 'Kid Shamrock' JJ Metcalf  smashed his way to a shot at the British title with a brutally entertaining sixth round stoppage victory over Leeds' Damon Jones.

It was Metcalf early on forcing the fight early on, bullying Jones around the ring. The aggressor wasn't having the fight all his own way however as he shipped a couple of sharp counters on the way in.

The pair exploded out of the blocks in the third round. It was Metcalf however who came out the rosier of the exchanges, knocking down Jones twice and busting his nose in the process.

The contest evened up as Jones continued to land some good counter punches in the fourth and the fifth, the round which saw Metcalf deducted a point low blows.

After another action packed sixth round the contest finally concluded as Metcalf placed an absolute superb left hook to the body which saw referee Michael Alexander stop the bout after 2.25 of round number 6.

After what can only be described as an excellent trade contest, Metcalf will now look ahead to a British title clash. Damon Jones has nothing to be ashamed of and will definitely come again.

Jack Bateson continued his perfect start to the paid code with another victory.

The 23-year-old stopped Kamil Jamorek inside two rounds to add to his tally at the First Direct Arena.

Bateson, from Leeds, boxed as part of the undercard to Josh Warrington’s IBF featherweight title final eliminator against Dennis Ceylan.

And he controlled proceedings with ease throughout, unleashing barrages of shots to the head and body of the visitor before he eventually wilted.

A left uppercut out of the southpaw stance saw Jamorek take to the canvas for the first time, before a barrage of punches saw Jamie Kirkpatrick waive it off, giving the former Team GB star another win on a BT Sport-aired card in his home city.

Darren Tetley continued to push for a domestic title shot with a stoppage victory.

The Bradford man, who weighed in at welterweight for this contest at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, was in against Liverpool’s Terry Needham over eight scheduled rounds.

But ’TNT’ took less than two stanzas before referee Mark Lyson was forced to jump in and save Needham, who started quicker.

Despite that, it was Tetley landing with the cleaner work off the back-foot in the early stages.

Round two started explosively, with Needham being caught coming in and sent to the canvas. Tetley applied the pressure and as Needham went in to a wild panic mode, before Tetley –– who is now undefeated in 15 –– landed a perfect left hand sending his Scouse counterpart to the canvas again.

An end was called at one minute and 18 seconds of the second round.

Reece Mould shone as he advanced his professional ledger with a stoppage.

The Doncaster man, who was undefeated going in to the contest, improved his unblemished tally to 7-0 with three early, stopping Colin O’Donovan in the fourth round.

To his credit, O’Donovan gave it a go, but Mould was clearly the better skilled of the pair and his class showed, leading to referee Steve Gray calling a halt to the contest.

And Jack Daniel got his paid career off to a flyer with a stoppage over Roland Petrovics.
