Leading New Zealand heavyweight boxer Joseph Parker will fight in Invercargill on Saturday August 1, three weeks later than originally planned.

Parker has a 13-0 winning record and is ranked eighth in the world by the the WBO and 10th by the WBA.

Representatives of Parker's promoters, Duco Promotions, are in Invercargill planning the the fight , which is being heralded as Southland's biggest sporting event for 2015.

Parker was originally pencilled in to fight down south on July 11, however, that has since changed to allow him more time to prepare after his June 13 fight in Palmerston North, after which his opponent for Invercargill will be announced.

Duco are looking at about 70 corporate tables of 10 people each and about 3000 general admission tickets. Duco boss Martin Snedden said tickets were expected to go on sale in the next 10 to 14 days, and would be in the same price range as Parker's bout in Palmerston North. Corporate tables for that event start at $3444. General admission seats start at $49 and go up to $149 for platinum tickets.

Parker is expected to spend about nine days in Invercargill leading up to the fight. He will mix his training with promotional visits around the community, which Snedden said was a chance to help repay the funders who have helped back the event in Invercargill.

Snedden said they had earmarked 2015 in Parker's career as a chance for him to fight around different parts of New Zealand.

"We set aside 2015 to take him around New Zealand because what we want is people in communities around New Zealand to have a chance to have that experience watching him. Because there is a risk that we could have too many of his fights in Auckland, or around Auckland, and other people would wonder who this guy Joseph Parker is."
