David Higgins, manager of former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker, is very excited about his boxer's decision to start using Andy Lee as head trainer.

Parker recently made a decision to part ways with longtime trainer Kevin Barry.

Most believe the decision was made after Parker's lackluster performance against Junior Fa last month in Auckland.

While Parker won a twelve round unanimous decision, the fight was a lot closer than anyone had expected.

Lee, a former WBO middleweight champion, is the assistant coach to WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Lee is a student of legendary Hall of Fame trainer, Emanuel Steward, who took several boxers to world titles like Thomas Hearns, Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko.

Parker is now being lined up to fight tough contender Derek Chisora in the main event of a pay-per-view card in May.

Higgins is hoping the new relationship with Lee is a positive boost for Parker.

"I think it's exciting to see how it plays out. We've heard good things about Andy. The two of them will spend a bit of time together and get to know each other," Higgins said to Sky Sports.

"[Parker]'s excited about freshening things up a bit and maybe learning some new things, in a new environment. He had a wonderful run together with Kevin Barry and became world champion, but now it's time for a new chapter.

"[Lee is] schooled in the Emanuel Steward method at the Kronk gym, having lived with Emanuel. He's an experienced boxer, who was also a world champion. He'll be young and hungry by trainer standards, but he's got good credentials, and we've heard good things."
