In a dramatic fight, Jose "Chon" Zepeda scored an effective knockout at 2:18 of the fifth round over previously undefeated Carlos "Chuko" Diaz in a fight in a fight that saw the entire crowd on their feet at the State Auditorium in Mexicali in a card put together by Zanfer Promotions.

From the beginning the fight, there were fireworks.

Zepeda (29-1, 24 KOs) visited the canvas in his own corner in the fourth round - and he was very hurt after receiving a hook to the liver from Diaz (27-1, 13 KOs).

However, Zepeda managed to suck it up and survived the round.

At the start of the fifth round, Diaz came roaring out and wanted to finish Zepeda off.

During their exchanges, Zepeda was able to recover and began to unload with hard shots to the body.

Diaz crumbled after receiving a left hard to the pit of the stomach. He fell to the canvas and the referee Rafael Ramos reached the count of ten.

Diaz vomited in the ring and he was immediately given attention from his corner and the ringside doctors.

After the fight, Diaz was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Mexicali to get checked up, and so far it's being reported that he's in stable condition with no injuries.

"The result was given thanks to God, my regards for Carlos, he connected real good on me, but my resolve was excellent. I managed to recover and with all my drive and heart I also managed to hurt him and finish him," said Zepeda, who obtained the lightweight Intercontinental belt of the WBA.

Also on the card, undefeated fighter Pedro "Pete" Duran (16-0-3, 13 KOs) of California scored a unanimous decision over Miguel Ponce in a six round bout. Ponce went down in the fifth and sixth. The judges handed down scores of 58-54 and 59-53 x2.
