Super lightweight contender Jose “Chon” Zepeda (36-3, 27 KOs) picked up ten round unanimous decision over Neeraj Goyat (17-4-2, 7 KOs) at the Domo Alcalde in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Zepeda had to work hard against the extremely awkward Goyat. Goyat was more interested in raising his hands than throwing them. He clowned to the crowd all night while Zepeda just tried to put his punches together.

In the end, Zepeda held a 218-44 advantage in total punches connected. All 3 judges scored the fight 100-90.

Zepeda bounces back after suffering a stoppage loss to Regis Prograis in November, when they battled for the vacant WBC world title.

In the co-feature, super welterweight contender Carlos Ocampo (35-2, 23 KOs) beat down Mauricio Gutierrez (7-2, 5 KOs) for four rounds and forced him to sit on his stool before the start of the fifth.

Over in the UK, Nathan Heaney got the rematch victory over Jack Flatley at the Telford International Centre, Telford, and was crowned as World Boxing Association (WBA) Continental middleweight champion.

The two had previously met in September last year and Heaney had won a technical decision in the fifth round after a cut caused by an accidental headbutt. Both signed to do the rematch immediately and now the WBA regional belt was at stake.

The scorecards were 99-91, 97-93 and 97-93, all in favor of Heaney, who wins the second fight in a row and now leaves no uncertainty about his superiority. 

The undefeated fighter put on a good fight, with great technique and dominated from start to finish with a strong and determined opponent like the one in front of him. 

The undefeated reached 17 victories, 6 of them by way of the knockout, while Flatley left balance of 20 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw.

Earlier this week, in Plant City, Florida, once beaten Mohamed “El Bufalo Negro” Soumaoro stopped formerly undefeated Angel “El Chocolatito” Vazquez in round eight of a scheduled ten round lightweight bout. Soumaoro raised his record to 12-1 with 5 KO’s.

Soumaoro continuously landed heavy punches, including a BIG uppercut in round seven right on the chin. Vazquez couldn't put enough together to do any damage. Vazquez' corner stopped the fight with thirteen seconds left in round eight after Soumaoro landed some big shots, putting the cap on a dominant performance.

In a battle of super featherweights, Demontaze Duncan (8-1, 8 KOs) lost a six round decision win to Axl Melendez (5-0, 4 KOs). The scores were 57-57, 58-56, 58-56 

Duncan was hurt in the first round but pulled himself together. Melendez worked the inside for much of the fight and was winning exchanges and continued to throw hard punches through the sixth and final round. Each were throwing combinations till the final bell although it appeared Axl was getting the best of Duncan.

Puerto Rican junior welterweight prospect Omar Rosario (10-0, 3 KOs) blew away Zach Hill in the first round.

Rosario hurt Hill a couple of times then landed a few body shots and the last one, a left hook to the liver, ended it.
