Last night, Colombia’s Jose “El General” Sanmartin defeated Mexico’s David “El Severo” Carmona by unanimous decision 98-90, 97-91 and 97-92, and became the new WBA super bantamweight Central America Federation champion on EstrellaTV's monthly boxing series, “Boxeo EstrellaTV.”

The series occurs on the last Friday of every month and is broadcast live from Foro Centenario in Mexico City.

The start of the fight seemed to favor Carmona, who controlled the action and punished the South American with both hands, but he could not find a way to get inside and do real damage to Sanmartin.

While trying to get out of the corner, Carmona took a hook to the face, and the first knockdown of the fight occurred.  This made him hesitate a couple of rounds, and it triggered the awakening of Sanmartin.

As Sanmartin was coming on, David began to suffer from the jabs to his right eye, and his guard could not stop the body blows, nor the right hands to the Mexican’s head.

At the end of the fight, Carmona was forced to go for the knockout to reverse the inevitable result, while Sanmartin tried to finish the work without success.  As a result, the judges reached a unanimous decision in favor of Sanmartin.

As an 8-round semifinal battle at super welterweight, Diego “Maravilla” Carmona from the capital beat Edgar “El Nene” Ortega de Coahuila by disqualification at 1:44 of the third round for a rabbit blow and a hook while falling.

Axl Raí “Artillero” Miranda from the State of Mexico defeated Antonio de Jesús González “Tony Montana” from the State of Mexico by technical knockout at 2:14 of the second round in a 4-round fight at lightweight.

Andree Ocaña Álvarez of Mexico City could not keep up with Isaías Ortiz Ortiz of the State of Puebla, who took the victory by technical knockout at 2:26 of the second round, in a 4-round flyweight bout.

Ulises Rangel “Ali” Bañales of Mexico City defeated Osvaldo Rufino “El Kalusha” Meregildo of the State of Mexico by unanimous decision 39-37, 40-37 and 39-37, at 4 rounds at super welterweight.

American Jesus “El Chiquito” Haro from the United States defeated Alan “Suicida” Santillán from the State of Mexico by unanimous decision 40-36, 40-36 and 40-36, in a 4-round strawweight bout.

Brandon Ortega “Gallo Ortega” Ruiz of the State of Puebla fell to John Lennon Gutiérrez of Colombia by technical knockout at 58 seconds of the third round, in a 4-round lightweight bout.
