LAS VEGAS – Aston Palicte kept waving Jose Salas Reyes forward Saturday, imploring his opponent to engage with him.

When the Mexican southpaw finally started hitting him, though, Palicte didn’t want any part of it. The Filipino veteran gave referee Allen Huggins every indication that he didn’t want to continue when he got up from a knockdown in the fourth round, which left Huggins no choice but to stop their scheduled 10-round junior featherweight fight on the Errol Spence Jr.-Terence Crawford undercard at T-Mobile Arena.

Huggins officially halted the action at 1:30 of the fourth round.

Reyes (13-0, 10 KOs) spent more time feinting than anything in the first three rounds, but he started to apply pressure in the third round and made Palicte fight off his back foot. Reyes landed harder punches early in the fourth round, when his pressure caused Palicte to move away from him.

A straight left by Reyes buzzed Palicte early in the fourth round and he followed up with a left uppercut. Those punches prompted Palicte to take a knee with 1:51 on the clock in the fourth round.

Palicte got up by the time Huggins’ count reached seven, but he looked at his corner as if he didn’t want to continue. Huggins eventually determined that Palicte wanted out and stopped a fight Showtime Sports streamed on its YouTube channel.

Palicte (28-6-1, 23 KOs) suffered his second straight TKO loss and the fourth such defeat of his 12-year professional career.
