According to World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman,  his organization is very firm with their prior order - that Jose Ramirez must fight mandatory challenger Regis Prograis.

Last weekend in New York City, Ramirez (22-0, 16 KOs) capture the vacant WBC junior welterweight title with a twelve round decision over Amir Imam.

And one week prior, Prograis (21-0, 18 KOs) capture the interim-WBC title with a two-round destruction of former world champion Julius Indongo.

Sulaiman reveals that very shortly his organization will issue a letter to advise both side of their 30 period of free negotiations. If no deal is reached, then the contest will go to a purse bid.

Prograis is promoted by Lou DiBella, while Ramirez is with Top Rank.

"That was the condition we put in for the two fights, which said the winners were going to have to face each other, and now we will see José Ramírez and Regis Prograis facing each other to leave only one champion," explained Sulaiman to ESPN Deportes.

Sulaiman also stated that his organization will tend to the situation revolving around WBC super featherweight champion Miguel Berchelt, and the mandatory defense that he owes to challenger Miguel Román.

Promoter Fernando Beltrán, who handles Berchelt, wants his boxer to make a defense in the month June before attending to the mandatory fight.

Roman hoped to make the direct fight against Berchelt, but the WBC will decide at the end if they have to go directly to Roman or have permission to make an optional defense before forcing him to that contest.

"We have to check the date of the mandatory fight, we had understood that the fight was going straight ahead," said the head of the WBC.

Roman became the mandatory challenger last December, after he pulled off an upset with a TKO victory over mandatory Orlando Salido.
