Junior middleweight contender Jose Benavidez is predicting a shock win over his upcoming opponent, former two division world champion Danny “Swift” Garcia.

The fight headlines a Showtime tripleheader on July 30, from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

A world champion at 140 and 147 pounds, the 34-year-old Garcia (36-3, 21 KOs) will make an attempt to pursue a third divisional title.

Garcia has been out of the ring since losing a twelve round unanimous decision to unified welterweight champion Errol Spence in December of 2020.

Between 140 and 147, Garcia fought a who's who of boxers - including Erik Morales, Amir Khan, Zab Judah, Lucas Matthysse, Nate Campbell, Kendall Holt, Lamont Peterson, Paulie Malignaggi, Robert Guerrero, Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter, and Spence.

Benavidez (27-1-1, 18 KOs), the 30-year-old older brother of unbeaten two-time world champion David Benavidez, has been itching for a big fight.

He suffered his first career defeat in 2018, when he was stopped in twelve rounds by Terence Crawford. He moved to 154-pounds in November of 2021, but the bout with Francisco Torres ended in a draw.

A win over Garcia would certainly raise his stock in the weight class.

He believes his size and power will be the difference.

“This is a Mexico vs. Puerto Rico matchup and both of us have something to prove,” said Benavidez. “It’s going to be a great fight for the fans. I feel strong and I know I will end this one on fight night. I’m bigger and stronger than he is and come July 30, he will see the difference in power between us.”

Garcia is also aiming to make a statement, in a new weight, after his long layoff and setback to Spence.

“I feel blessed,” said Garcia. “I’m back like I never left. I can’t wait to return to the ring in front of the fans at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, who have always supported me, and for all my fans across the country watching on Showtime. The 'Danny Garcia Show’ returns July 30 and you don't want to miss it!”
