Former Japanese champion and former two-time lightweight world title challenger Takehiro Shimada (27-6-1, 17KOs), 41 years old, has officially announced that he will hang up his gloves for good after a 15 year boxing career.

Another fighter to announce their retirement is former WBO super featherweight champion Jorge "La Hyena" Barrios of Argentina. Barrios, 36 years old, first went pro in 1996. He was involved in several big fights in the United States.

The career of Barrios came to a halt in 2010 when he faced a big criminal trial which stemmed from a car accident on January 24th of that year in Mar del Plata. The accident killed a young pregnant woman. Since overcoming the criminal charges, Barrios has been unable to schedule a fight. He walks away with a record of 50-4-1, 35 KOs.
