Jordan Gill (25-1, 7 KOs) kicked off Eddie Hearn’s Fight Camp with a commanding display to earn a unanimous points decision over Reece Bellotti in their featherweight ten-rounder.

In what was a crossroads fight for both, Gill movement and punch variety proved too much for Bellotti (14-4, 12 KOs), the former Commonwealth champion, who had some success to the body but spent most of the fight chasing after his elusive opponent.

Gill comes from Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, a town best known as the home of Dave ‘Boy’ Green, who shared the ring with Sugar Ray Leonard and Carlos Palomino in world title shots, and while Gill is well off that level, he showed he career was back on the right path after suffering a bad loss to Mario Enrique Tinoco last year.

He controlled the opening rounds, using his left jab well, but Bellotti had a good spell in the fourth and fifth, when he caught Gill with some right hands over the top and got through with some body shots.

But Gill adjusted well and when he got on the backfoot, Bellotti struggled to get close. By the eighth round, Gill seemed in total control, staying light on his feet and spearing Bellotti with the left jab whenever he ventured too close and while Bellotti had a good final round, it was too little too late.

Michael Alexander and Howard Foster both scored it 97-93, Phil Edwards had it close, however, making it 96-95. Ian John-Lewis refereed.

The fight was the show opener on first Fight Camp show from the garden of Hearn’s boyhood family home, which is now the headquarters of Matchroom Sport.
