Jon Fernández (20-1, 17 KOs), the current WBC Latino beltholder at lightweight, will face Armenian contender Aik Shakhnazaryan as a featured fight on the event being held on February 8 at the Pavilion La Casilla de Bilbao, as confirmed by the promoter Euskobox.

Fernandez was recently in action, after winning by unanimous decision over Franco-Tunisian boxer Abderrazak Houya on December 28, also in the historic pavilion of the capital of Biscay.

The Basque boxer will travel to Ponferrada on Monday to start the training cycle, under Tinín Rodríguez, and he's very focused on this fight against an opponent who presents a 23-3, 11 KOs record, and collected several regional belts under the IBF, WBO and WBC in the lightweight and super lightweight divisions.

"I really enjoyed the fight against Houya . It was demanding in many ways and I felt very good. Besides, La Casilla is special for me. It generates unique emotions and brings me great memories," says the boxer of Etxebarri, who said that fighting with the Armenian opponent "motivates him a lot".

"I have to concentrate fully. On February 8 I will have to squeeze the most out of myself and be very careful with my defense. My opponent is a great boxer. It will be a chess game because any mistake will not be forgiven. Sparks will fly," he said.
