Johnny Fisher continued the strong start to his professional career in predictably easy fashion Saturday.

The unbeaten British heavyweight overwhelmed and stopped huge underdog Dmytro Bezus in the first round of their eight-round heavyweight fight on the Conor Benn-Peter Dobson undercard at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Fisher, of Romford, England, assaulted Ukraine’s Bezus with a barrage of power punches that caused referee Robert Hoyle to step between them and end their bout at 2:51 of the first round.

The 6-foot-4, 243-pound Fisher is 11-0 and has 10 knockouts after winning a fight he entered as a 30-1 favorite, according to DraftKings sportsbook. Fisher, 24, had only 10 amateur bouts before he turned pro debut in February 2021, but he has shown some improvement in his past few fights and appears prepared for an incremental step up in opposition.

Bezus (10-2, 5 KOs), who resides and trains in Montreal, has been knocked out quickly by two British heavyweights in less than a year. London’s David Adeleye (12-1, 11 KOs) beat Bezus by second-round TKO last February 17 at York Hall in London.

Fisher blasted Bezus with a right uppercut and then a right hand to the side of his head that marked the beginning of the end late in the first round. Hoyle jumped in to protect Bezus, who was backed against the ropes and unable to fight back.

A right-left combination by Fisher knocked Bezus into the ropes a little less than a minute into the first round and indicated what was to come later in the opening round.
