A disciplinary hearing for John Molina Jr. regarding his positive test for a banned diuretic has been delayed until a future meeting of the Nevada Athletic Commission.

Molina’s hearing was on the agenda for the commission’s June 11 meeting. At the beginning of the meeting, it was announced that his hearing was being tabled/continued for another date. No reason was announced at that moment, though it was likely due to a request either from Molina’s team or from the commission itself.

The junior welterweight tested positive after his March decision loss to Adrien Broner. Diuretics can be used to help a fighter lose weight, and they are also capable of acting as masking agents to hide the use of other banned substances.

Molina, who had gone to war against Lucas Matthysse in defeat back in 2014, came out against Broner with a less-than-thrilling effort for the second straight fight. He has now lost three in a row: to Matthysse via stoppage, to Humberto Soto by decision last September, and to Broner by wide decision. The 32-year-old from Covina, California, is now 27-6 with 22 KOs.

At a commission hearing in May, Molina’s attorney sought to make a deal with the commission and avoid a disciplinary hearing, according to Steve Carp of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The commission denied any deal, then postponed Molina’s hearing until June, and has now postponed it again.

Last month, the commission also mulled enacting longer suspensions for fighters who test positive for performance-enhancing drugs and other banned substances. Those would not go into effect until later this year.
