John Docherty will be back in the ring next month.

The Scottish southpaw was last in action in August in Liverpool.

Docherty, 21, was extended the distance for the first time at the Exhibition Centre on Merseyside by Darryl Sharp in his first fight since a stoppage of Wilmer Gonzalez at the SSE Hydro in the city on the undercard of Josh Taylor’s IBF world super-lightweight title win against Ivan Baranchyk in the World Boxing Super Series back in May.

And the man from Montrose, who has a flawless ledger of six wins from six, will be looking to build on that when he turns out in Newcastle.

‘The Doc’ has been confirmed as an addition to promoter Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing’s card on October 19 at the Utilita Arena in the North East.

The card is topped by a clash between Robbie Davies Jr. and Lewis Ritson as the pair meet in an official eliminator for the WBA world title at super-lightweight and will be screened exclusively live in the UK on Sky Sports and Stateside on DAZN.

Ted Cheeseman is set to make a defence of his British super-welterweight title against Scott Fitzgerald on the card and Joseph Laws will feature.

Heavyweight David Allen, who lost to David Price and was hospitalised in the aftermath back in July, is scheduled to return in a six-round contest and there is action for light-heavyweight Lawrence Osueke, who will take on Ricky Summers, and Terry Wilkinson.

Further additions to the card will follow in due course.
