It was a beautiful debut from Great Britain's super heavyweight medal hopeful as Joe Joyce made easy work of Davilson Dos Santos Morais.

The 30-year-old native of London landed a right straight behind the ear of his opponent, putting him down and finishing the bout.

“I don't go looking for (the knockout), but when it's there I go out and get it,” Joyce told NBC Sports’ Chris Mannix. “Just before the bell, I was like "Whoa!" He was lined up nice there.”

Joyce had had a prolific career on the amateur stage, winning bronze at the 2015 World Amateur Championships and 2013 European Amateur Championships and gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and 2015 European Games. He’s hoping that success will continue into these Olympic games.

“There's great morale (among us) and it's great to see all of us cheer each other on,” Joyce said of the Great Britain boxing team.

In an upset, Cuba’s Erislandy Savon was defeated during his semi-final bout against Vassiliy Levit of Kazakstan, forcing the Cuban fighter to settle for bronze.
