O2 Arena, Greenwich - For the British lightweight title, amateur standout Joe Cordina (9-0, 7 KOs) had few issues in breaking down and stopping Andy Townend (22-5, 14 KOs) in six rounds.

Cordina started slow in the first three rounds, but Cordina began to really let his hands go in the fourth round. He was landing combinations, pushing Towned back and tagging him with rapid punches. Townend did his best in the fifth and sixth, but Cordina had his defense in full play, with counters flying back and tagging Townend.

During the sixth round action, a big uppercut, followed up by a variety of punches sent Townend down against the ropes. Townend made it up, but he was once again battered with punches to the head and body - which sent Townend down for the second time.

Townend once made it up to beat the count. Cordina fired off a few more punches to send him down for a third time, and at that point the referee had seen enough and waved off the fight.

In other action, welterweight prospect Conor Benn (14-0, 9 KOs) returned for the first time since last July and won an eight round decision over Josef Zahradnik (10-3). The referee gave a sole score of 80-71.

Middleweight prospect John Harding (7-0-1, 1 KOs) picked up an easy six round decision over Miroslav Juna (1-2). A sole referee score of 60-54 was handed down.

Cruiserweight Sam Hyde (14-1-1, 7 KOs) bounced back from the first defeat of his pro career, a knockout to Richard Riakporhe in November, to score a first round knockout of Jozef Jurko (5-2).

After making her pro debut last month at Copper Box Arena, Shannon Courtenay (2-0) was back in the ring to win a four round decision over Roz Mari Silyanova (1-5). A sole score of 40-36 was handed in.
