Former WBA super welterweight world champion Joachim Alcine (35-8-2) has announced his retirement from the ring. In his most recent fight, fought in Houston, Texas on October 31, Alcine was stopped in the sixth round by Jermell Charlo (27-0-0).

Alcine, 39-years-old, began his career in 1999 under the banner of promoter InterBox promoter. He became IBA Americas champion in 2002 by defeating Marcos Primera in a battle fought in Charlotte, North Carolina. In his next outing, he became Canadian champion.

In 2004, he followed Yvon Michel when he founded the promotional firm GYM. In subsequent years he grabbeds WBA Fedelatin, NABA and WBC International titles. However, it is his victory over Stephane Ouellet in 2004 in only 69 seconds at the Bell Centre that captured the public.

Alcine became WBA world champion in 2007 by defeating Travis Simms at his home in Connecticut. He lost his belt in his second defense, the ring of Montreal's Uniprix Stadium, when he was stopped by Daniel Santos. Then he pulled off some interesting feats, which included his victories against Christophe Canclaux and especially against David Lemieux in 2011.

Throughout his career, Alcine faced boxers like Alfredo Angulo, Matthew Macklin, and Brian Rose. In 2014, he drew with Delvin Rodriguez during a fight contested at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal.
