WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (55-8, 47KOs) wants to prove to the entire world that his knockout victory over Abner Mares (26-1-1, 14KOs) was not a lucky punch, by granting Mares a rematch in February.

“We will have a rematch so I can prove to the world that my victory was not luck. I’m a great fighter and in February I'll again prove it,” Gonzalez promised.

He shocked the world of boxing by defeating Mares by knockout in the first round of a Showtime televised fight to regain the WBC featherweight title on August 24th in Carson, California.

Gonzalez caught Mares cold with one of his feared bombs and the previously undefeated boxer was never able to fully recover.

“Many people were mighty surprised with my victory over Abner, but for me it was no surprise at all," Gonzalez said. “Abner deserves the rematch, as he gave me an opportunity, so it's my obligation to respond in the same way, so that's why we'll have a rematch.”

Chapter two of Gonzalez vs. Abner, also carried by Showtime, will take place a day after Valentine's Day, February 15th, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
