The World Championships Committee of the World Boxing Association (WBA) have ordered the start of negotiations between the Panamanian Jezreel Corrales (20-1, 8KO) - who is the WBA's super champion at super featherweight - to take on Jason Sosa (19-1 -4, 15KO) of the United States, who holds the WBA's "regular" championship at the weight.

Corrales, in the month of April, pulled off a stunning upset with a two round knockout of Japanese champion Takashi Uchiyama. The victory was one of the biggest surprises of the year, where the interim champion knocked off one of the most respected fighters in the division.

Meanwhile, Sosa also surprised friends and strangers alike on on June 24 in China, where he pulled off a big upset of his own by getting off the floor to score a knockout of Dominican Javier Fortuna, who until then was the regular champion at 130 pounds and was dominating the fight until he was stopped in the eleventh round.

In mid-February the WBA had ordered Uchiyama and Fortuna to fight each other, but then allowed both fighters to take interim fights - and both champions unexpectedly got knocked off.

The teams behind Corrales and Sosa were duly informed by the Championships Committee of the WBA who have 30 days to reach an agreement or their showdown will be ordered to head over to a purse bid.
