While nothing has been confirmed so far, there is a possibility that Jesus Cuellar vs. Abner Mares might get rescheduled to a date in July, at a venue in California.

The fight was scheduled to take place this coming Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The card is headlined by Keith Thurman vs. Shawn Porter.

Last week it was revealed that Mares was unable to secure a license from the New York State Athletic Commission. According to sources, Mares failed the eye exam with an inadequate eyesight score.

Cuellar, who holds the WBA 'regular' featherweight title, is itching to get in the ring. Mares, former three division world champion, was looking to bounce back after losing a twelve round decision to Leo Santa Cruz in his last ring outing.

'The only thing that was confirmed was that Jesus will not fight on the undercard on June 25 in New York. Logically, these postponements with so little time before a fight are obviously the last thing you want, but that's boxing and things like have happened to every great boxer at some point in his career, so you have to accept it,'' said Sebastian Contursi, manager of Cuellar, to ESPN Deportes.

''Cuellar took it in the best way possible, so now there will be a few days of relaxation and then with he has a great desire to fight. I hope that it's Mares."

Cuellar has been out of the ring since last November, when he traveled to the Barclays Center to win a twelve round decision over Jonathan Oquendo of Puerto Rico.
