Junior featherweight Jesus Arechiga remained unbeaten late Saturday night, defeating late-sub Jesus Gomez by unanimous decision at the Gimnasio German Evers in his hometown of Mazatlan, Mexico.

Scores were 80-71, 80-71, and 79-71 for Arechiga, who improved to 19-0, 13 knockouts.

Arechiga dominated the action throughout most of the fight. He dropped Gomez twice during the fifth round. To his credit, Gomez was still game after getting up after the second knockdown, but was hit repeatedly to the head and body by Arechiga.

The 22-year-old continued the onslaught into the second half of the fight, but was content to just box from the distance during the final round. 

Arechiga was originally scheduled to face former world title challenger David Carmona, but Carmona had to withdraw from the fight due to a reported undisclosed injury he suffered a week before the fight.

In his previous fight on November 11, Arechiga defeated Florentino Perez Hernandez by unanimous decision. He stopped former fringe contender David Reyes Cota on June 24.

Arechiga is managed and trained by Hector Zapari. 

Gomez, who resides in Nuevo Casas Grandes, Mexico, falls to 11-9, 8 KOs. The 25-year-old has now lost his last seven fights. 

Lightweight Jose Amaro Garcia improved to 6-0-1, 4 KOs, defeating Tijuana’s Dennis Bravo Salazar (3-2-2, 2 KOs) by unanimous decision. All three judges scored the bout 40-36 in favor of the 19-year-old, who also resides in Mazatlan. 

Junior middleweight Juan Estrada Juarez of Mazatlan defeated Cristian Soriano Muruato (3-3), also of Gomez Palacio, by split decision. One judge scored the bout 40-38 for Soriano, while the other two judges scored the bout 40-36 and 40-38 for Estrada, who improves 5-0, 1 KO. 

In welterweight action, Axel Velazquez Castro of Tijuana stopped Armando Torres (0-2) of Gomez Palacio, Mexico at 2:56 of the second round. Velazquez goes to 5-0, 4 KOs.
