Another fight, another win for Jesus Arechiga.

The junior featherweight prospect remained unbeaten last Friday night, defeating gatekeeper Florentino Perez by unanimous decision at the Gimnasio German Ever in Arechiga’s hometown of Mazatlan, Mexico.

Scores were 100-92, 99-93 and 98-94 for Arechiga, who improved to 18-0, 14 knockouts.

The shorter Perez was game, but the more-polished Arechiga outboxed Perez throughout much of the fight. As the bout progressed, Perez fought more in survival mode as Arechiga boxed more.

After the fight, it was revealed Arechiga hurt his hand, resulting in fighting more from the outside. Under the circumstances, Hector Zapari, Jr. was impressed with Arechiga’s performance.

“Florentino Perez was a strong fighter who was game and took punches well, but he fought somewhat dirty because he led with his head and would hold a lot as the fight progressed,” Zapari, who is Arechiga’s manager and trainer, told BoxingScene Wednesday. “(Perez) was in survival mode and looked tired at the end of the fight.

“Jesus hurt his hand during the fifth round when he threw a hook to the body. He was the aggressor because he wanted to entertain the fans. It was a dominant performance by Jesus.”

The victory over Perez took place almost five months after the 22-year-old stopped former fringe contender David Reyes Cota in the fourth round. In his previous fight, Arechiga stopped Jose Valdes Bernal, also in the fourth round.

Perez, who resides in Monterrey, Mexico, drops to 14-8-2, 9 KOs. He has now lost his last four bouts, including losses to Eduardo Baez, Alan Picasso, and, most recently, Luis Nunez.
