Jesus Ahumada defeated journeyman Leonardo Torres by unanimous decision Saturday night at the Commerce Casino in Commerce, California.

Scores were 77-75, 77-75, and 78-74 for Ahumada, who improves to 19-4, 12 knockouts.

Ahumada, who resides in Hermosillo, Mexico, was the more-effective fighter throughout most of the fight. The 26-year-old had to deal with Torres leading with his head as Torres attempted to get on the inside. Accidental clash of heads lead to Ahumada suffering cuts above each eye in round five and eight.

Despite Torres being game and the cuts he suffered, Ahumada was unfazed as he displayed a full arsenal of combinations that landed throughout the fight.

Ahumada has won three of his last four bouts with the only blemish being a knockout loss to Robson Conceicao on April 10 of last year. Ahumada also lost by knockout to then-prospect Stephen Fulton by knockout in June 2018.

Torres, who resides in Matamoros, Mexico, drops to 10-16-1, 5 KOs. He has now lost his last two fights after going unbeaten in his previous six bouts.

In an upset, 18-year-old junior lightweight Oscar Alvarez of Ciudad Obregon, Mexico improved to 6-0, 6 KOs by stopping Brandon Cruz (8-3, 5 KOs) of Bonita, California in the fourth round.

Cruz was the favorite going into the fight, but Alvarez came to fight. Towards the end of the fourth round, Alvarez was getting the better of the exchanges. Referee Rudy Barragan stopped the fight at 2:36 after Cruz’s corner threw in the towel, reportedly after Cruz had difficulty seeing after a cut above his eye.
