Former world champion Jessie Magdaleno (28-1) plans on returning to the ring after a nearly two-year inactive streak in the very near future. The Top Rank promoted fighter last fought in June, 2020 when he defeated Yenifel Vicente via disqualification. 

The Las Vegas native recently signed a managerial contract with Hector Fernandez de Cordova’s Ferco Box and is looking to return to action sometime in late May. 

“I'm coming back, just waiting for it to happen. You have no idea. No one deserves this more than me and I'll prove it,” Magdaleno told BoxingScene.com. 

Magdaleno captured the 122 pound WBO title as a huge underdog when he upset future Hall of Famer Nonito Donaire in 2016. He lost his title in 2018 to Isaac Dogboe in a terrific fight in which both fighters hit the canvas. 

He has since won three fights in a row and is now looking to capture a title in the featherweight division. 

In addition to a new manager, Magdaleno also has a new training team. He is working under the guidance of world class trainer Kevin Barry and his son Taylor.  

Magdaleno, who was previously managed my Frank Espinoza, is the younger brother of former title contender Diego “2 Fuego” Magdaleno. 

Fernandez de Cordova is confident that his client will become a world champion again.  

“Jessie is one of a kind. Mistakes have been made and I'm not here to point fingers. This is a new start. He's got a new trainer, a new manager,  and a new advisor in Sam Katkovski and he's our priority.  This is a brand new start to write his name in the books of history. It is up to him!” Said Fernandez de Cordova. 

Fernandez de Codova’s also manages fighters such as super featherweight contender Eduardo “Rocky“ Hernandez, veteran Denis Douglin, multi-division world champion Hanna Gabriels, and several others.
